In my opinion, those who chose to leave the church over church history/doctrine can find "reason". Those who chose to follow Christ will use faith as a shield and will quench all the fiery darts of the adversary (does quench mean we're unscathed). Is it easy, no, not by any means. The key is to go to your knees and put the burden on the Lord. Apparently this is what you did. The Lord told us we would experience opposition in all things. Note the word "all". It shouldn't surprise us when we find opposition in our church history/doctrine. I followed it and was very naive in church history, etc. My faith was challenged and on one particular post I wrote on apostacy. Postmormon.org got ahold of that and I was bombarded with anti-mormons and ex-mormons throwing questions of doubt/history, etc. at me...it did challenge my faith but it also forced me to my knees.
