Dealing with Crisis the Lord’s Way

Because we are the children of God we can know Him, and be Known of Him. The scriptures teach many things about Heavenly Father, and if we diligently seek Him He will be revealed. Many Latter-day Saints have experienced this revealing and therefore have a testimony.

In the last few years, as I've visited numerous LDS blogs, I have read many accounts of church members who experience a crisis of one kind or another. Their testimonies are often challenged as they struggle with a situation they feel is inexplicable. They are brought to a point where they begin to feel that God doesn't really exist, or needs to be redefined, because of the nature of their difficulty. All kinds of difficulties befall us while in mortality. When our faith was strong we thought we were on the high road to the Celestial Kingdom, but when in the midst of a crisis, our faith is seemingly uprooted as we're tossed about in the circumstances that engulf us.

I Am No Respecter of Persons

Heavenly Father has revealed many things about himself. Among these revealed truths we learn one of His chief characteristics---"he is no respecter of persons". The Lecture on Faith teaches in order, "to exercise faith in God we must first have 'a correct idea of his character, perfections, and attributes'." The prophet listed six of these and number five says: "God is no respecter of persons, meaning that all his children in all ages will be taught the same gospel and granted the same privilege to enjoy its blessings."

What does this bit of knowledge mean to you and me? What use can you put this knowledge to, this very hour, to help you acquire greater faith?

An Invitation from the Father and the Son: First and Second Comforter

We learn from the Savior about love, and the relationships that can be ours with the Father and the Son, if we really love them. From John 14:21-26 according to the Amplified Bible here.

21 The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]
