A Few Thoughts on Getting the Lord’s Attention
ASK
Asking is a law of heaven. We can ask, petition, request, beg, and implore the Lord, depending on our need.
Receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost
Authority Restored
The restoration of the gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith restored many things that had been lost from the earth. The authority to baptize and confer the gift of the Holy Ghost was among things lost. John the Baptist, now a resurrected man, restored the authority to baptize and confer the gift of the Holy Ghost when he laid his hands on Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery (JS-History 1:67-74).
There are many blessings associated with receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Joseph Smith wrote about the change he and Oliver experienced immediately after receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost:
Bloggernaclist—Are You Puffed Up or Humble? An Acid Test for Self Assessment
Moving quickly about the internet is easy to take for granted. At least I have, until recently, that is. The broadband that runs my home computer is being upgraded and I’m without the internet for a week or so—what a pain. I now realize just how much I rely on various internet sites.
Counseling God, Following Blindly, or Counseling with God
The title of this post outlines three ways we can approach the Lord as we deal with the various issues of life. I've experienced all three ways of dealing with the Lord at different times in my church life. At times I have sought to counsel Him, at other times I have followed church leaders blindly, and now I've learned, at least to some degree, how to counsel with the Lord. Following are a few things I'd like to share.
Plateauing Bloggernaclist (Latter-Day-Saints)-Fighting Spiritual Boredom
Plateauing: to reach a state or level of little or no growth or decline, esp. to stop increasing or progressing; remain at a stable level of achievement; level off.
“…Ye Ask Not, Neither Do Ye Knock; Wherefore Ye are Not Brought into the Light…”
If we desire to learn the gospel of Jesus Christ we need to study it like we would any other subject. The familiar process of reading, attending class, writing, and discussing will allow us to acquire information. However, there is a difference between knowledge and understanding. Knowledge is to understanding, what an acorn is to an Oak tree.
President and Sister Monson on “Promptings”
This weekend members of the church have the privilege of hearing from the Lord's chosen leaders for this day and time. Each of them has certainly invested a great deal of effort in prayer and preparation as they have selected their various messages to present in conference.
Writing and Commenting in the Bloggernacle
Good, better, and best are terms that can be used to describe the relative worth of competing choices. The one thing they have in common is the fact that a favorable outcome can be expected from each. However, the favorable outcomes are not of equal value. All of us come to forks in the road of life where we have choices to make from competing interest.
Elder Dallin Oaks has taught:
How do I know if I have the Gift of the Holy Ghost?
And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. 3 Nephi 12:6
For those who desire the companionship of the Holy Gospel this scripture is packed with meaning. The Lord draws on basic needs all of us experience on a daily basis; hungering and thirsting-to teach us what it takes to be filled with the Holy Ghost.
The Book of Mormon-The Keystone of our Spiritual Life
I'm looking forward to reading and studying from the Book of Mormon in 2008. I feel excited like a little boy who is about to open up a gift. Why do I feel this way about reading the Book of Mormon? I don't know exactly. In the last few years I've read it twice. Last year I read it cover to cover using a replica of the first printing. No chapters and verse as in our current edition. At first I was a little uncomfortable with unfamiliar lay out, but in no time I adapted to it. I didn't even notice the absence of all the changes the church has made with words and punctuation.
