Is America in Peril?

I admit—I’ve developed a pessimistic view of America’s future in recent years. When the twin towers went down on 9-11-2001, I was amazed at the way American’s responded. Everywhere I looked people were flying our flag; in their cars, houses, and businesses. When President Bush went before congress for a televised speech it was a God touched moment. I felt it, as did many others.

Heavenly Father Provides Us with Mountains to Climb, But Oft Times We Choose Hills Instead

Acquiring and growing a testimony is like climbing a mountain. As we ascend we can turn and view the vista behind us, and feel a sense of accomplishment at how far we've come. As we continue to climb we arrive at the top and feel a rush of accomplishment and growth. However, as we look into the distance we soon become aware that there are towering peaks before us that need to be climbed. We know if we leave theses unclimbed we'll be missing out on experience, experience that we need and should not put off.

Preparing for Conference this Weekend

I'm looking forward to conference this weekend. In preparation I made a list of things I can do to prepare. What would you add to or delete from this list?

1.  Pray for those who will speak in conference this weekend.

2.  Pray that I'll be guided by the Spirit to hear and understand those messages the Lord knows I need to hear.

Counseling God, Following Blindly, or Counseling with God

The title of this post outlines three ways we can approach the Lord as we deal with the various issues of life. I've experienced all three ways of dealing with the Lord at different times in my church life. At times I have sought to counsel Him, at other times I have followed church leaders blindly, and now I've learned, at least to some degree, how to counsel with the Lord. Following are a few things I'd like to share.

President and Sister Monson on “Promptings”

This weekend members of the church have the privilege of hearing from the Lord's chosen leaders for this day and time. Each of them has certainly invested a great deal of effort in prayer and preparation as they have selected their various messages to present in conference.

An Invitation from the Father and the Son: First and Second Comforter

We learn from the Savior about love, and the relationships that can be ours with the Father and the Son, if we really love them. From John 14:21-26 according to the Amplified Bible here.

21 The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]

“Among All the Workmanship of Mine Hands…”

A few thoughts, actually speculation mingled with scripture, about the world we live on.

I've been interested in the Savior's teachings about this earth when He compared it to His other creations saying,

35 Behold, I am God; Man of Holiness is my name; Man of Counsel is my name; and Endless and Eternal is my name, also.
36 Wherefore, I can stretch forth mine hands and hold all the creations which I have made; and mine eye can pierce them also, and among all the workmanship of mine hands there has not been so great wickedness as among thy brethren. Pearl of Great Price | Moses 7:35 - 36

Teachings of the Prophets: Harold B. Lee on Meditation

The following is from taken from LDS.org under the title, Take Time to be Holy.

President Harold B. Lee talks about the importance of meditation. I am particularly interested in the story related about Bishop John Wells son who was killed in an accident.
