The Lord Maketh No Such Thing Known To Us

Since coming to the Bloggernacle over two years ago, I’ve read many post and comments where writers relate that they are active members, keep the commandments well enough to maintain a temple recommend, read the Book of Mormon, prayed about it, and still haven’t received a witness of its truthfulness by the power of the Holy Ghost as promised.

Here is an example of one brother stating his frustration:

Weightier Matters of the Gospel—Don’t Neglect This One

Weightier matters cannot be neglected---indefinitely that is. For those who fail to realize this truth, in whatever they’re doing, will—sooner or later, suffer for their omission.

The story is told about a prosperous life insurance salesman who neglected to secure life insurance for his own family. He died in a car accident, and to the surprise of all who knew him, left his family uninsured. He had helped other families realize the benefits of being debt free, but left his own family with crushing debt, heartache, and questions.

Recognizing a Testimony of the Book of Mormon

Members of the church are counseled to obtain a testimony of the Book of Mormon. How does one know when they have a testimony?

The best way to answer this question is to ask those who've received a testimony, to describe it.

Eugene England wrote a book titled Converted to Christ Through the Book of Mormon. Following are five examples from his book that will help us recognize what a testimony of the Book of Mormon is like.

Is Your Testimony of the Book of Mormon Authentic or Borrowed?

In my opinion, there are many kinds of testimonies held by church members. But at some point church members need to acquire a testimony in the Lord's way. This is done by calling on the Lord in prayer, even mighty prayer, to acquire a true and living testimony of the Book of Mormon as described in the following verses:

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (New Testament | Hebrews 4:16)
