How do I know if I have the Gift of the Holy Ghost?

And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. 3 Nephi 12:6

For those who desire the companionship of the Holy Gospel this scripture is packed with meaning. The Lord draws on basic needs all of us experience on a daily basis; hungering and thirsting-to teach us what it takes to be filled with the Holy Ghost.

In another scripture we learn ...the Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith...

Using the Book of Mormon to Commune with God

Posted on January 13, 2008

The Book of Mormon is a gift from God to a spiritually dead 2nd estate. It is a gift with a promise. Those who have received a testimony of the Book of Mormon by the power of the Holy Ghost know for themselves what I mean.

Not only can we receive a testimony by the power of God regarding the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, we can employee this book of scripture to refresh our testimony through out our lives. The Book of Mormon has a spirit about it and that means we can draw near to God just by reading from it. I think this is true with any of the books in our standard works, but the Book of Mormon stands preeminent.

Teachings of the Prophets: Harold B. Lee on Meditation

The following is from taken from LDS.org under the title, Take Time to be Holy.

President Harold B. Lee talks about the importance of meditation. I am particularly interested in the story related about Bishop John Wells son who was killed in an accident.

How does meditation bring us closer to the Lord?

President [David O.] McKay said, “We don’t take sufficient time to meditate.” I get up early in the morning … , five o’clock, when my mind and spirit are clear and rested. Then I meditate. You can come closer to the Lord than you imagine when you learn to meditate. Let your spirits be taught by the Spirit.

Things of the Spirit

The phrase "the things of the spirit" is used twice in the scriptures, both times by the Apostle Paul. In spite of that fact LDS leaders use the term often. I had 114 hits when I searched LDS.org for usage of this phrase in the Ensign Magazine.

When church members use the phrase "the things of the spirit" they are talking about one or all of the following:

1. The light of Christ

2. The Holy Ghost
