Devin,
I suggest that you get a good dictionary and read the definition of testimony. I went to Google and entered, define: testimony. Here is the result.

a formal written or spoken statement, especially one given in a court of law.

*evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something.

*a public recounting of a religious conversion or experience.

As this definition illustrates. When a testimony is given in a religious setting it is different than in a court of law. God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost can not be summoned to a court of law. But individuals who have had some kind of religious experience can bear testimony of their experience.

My testimony is provided on this blog. "Jared-My Experience with the Savior", can be found on the header of this blog.

Best to you.

You, along with the mainstream LDS, have redefined and diluted the value of the word testimony. The literal definition is an eyewitness to an event. That means you declare something you have seen with your own eyes. Yet, in LDS culture a testimony seems to be a sliding scale of belief from a very weak testimony or belief in something, to a very strong belief/testimony. If you were summoned to court to testify of an event, all that would be relevant to the court as your testimony would be what you have personally experienced with your own 5 senses, not conjecture, hearsay or beliefs that have evolved over time. Please wake up and stop dwindling in unbelief. Unbelief is not just that you don't believe truth, but also that you believe things that are not true, such as this redefined word testimony, and that you are now blogging a whole sermon based upon the incorrect meaning of this word. Continuing the lie or supporting the incorrect meaning of a testimony, perpetuates the unbelief that is rampant in the church.
