Are God’s Promises Being Realized in Your Life?
The scriptures contain many promises. Consider the following short list:
1. The Lord answers prayers—3 Nephi 18:20
2. Keeping the commandments brings happiness—Mosiah 2:41
3. Supported in trials and troubles—Alma 36:3
Commentary on 2 Nephi 31:17
Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost. 2 Nephi 31:17
Commentary on 2 Nephi 31:13
Not all scripture is of equal value. For example, as valuable as the vision of the three degrees of glory is, it pales in importance to scripture that teach the doctrine of Christ. Why? The doctrine of Christ reveals truths that allow us to access the power of the atonement of Christ. The vision of the three degrees of glory is explanatory. One saves, and the other explains. In other words, a starving man would find more help in a hand full of rice than he would in a cook book about rice.
The following verse of scripture provides those who hunger for salvation in the Kingdom of God a hand full of doctrine to get them started in the right direction.
Is Your Testimony of the Book of Mormon Authentic or Borrowed?
In my opinion, there are many kinds of testimonies held by church members. But at some point church members need to acquire a testimony in the Lord's way. This is done by calling on the Lord in prayer, even mighty prayer, to acquire a true and living testimony of the Book of Mormon as described in the following verses:
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Heavenly Father Provides Us with Mountains to Climb, But Oft Times We Choose Hills Instead
Acquiring and growing a testimony is like climbing a mountain. As we ascend we can turn and view the vista behind us, and feel a sense of accomplishment at how far we've come. As we continue to climb we arrive at the top and feel a rush of accomplishment and growth. However, as we look into the distance we soon become aware that there are towering peaks before us that need to be climbed. We know if we leave theses unclimbed we'll be missing out on experience, experience that we need and should not put off.

One of the Best Kept Secrets of the Church
Mike: Why are the scripture so important? After all, the Bible is scripture and look at all the different Christian churches that have sprung into existence since it was published. Obviously scripture is subject to interpretation, and if this is the case, what real good can they be?
Jack: That's precisely why the Lord called on the prophet Joseph Smith. His calling as a prophet and the calling of other prophets since then--provides us with leaders whose responsibility it is to interpret scripture. Without apostles and prophets scriptures wouldn't be enough.
A Question for the Bloggernacle: Where’s the Beef?
When I first became aware of the word Bloggernacle, I saw two words merged--blog and tabernacle, and in my mind's eye, I envisioned church members using blogs to teach and discuss the gospel. I decided to see for myself and visited the Bloggernacle for the first time two years ago.
I was aware of a strong anti-mormon element on the internet and was looking forward to spending time with the saints in the Bloggernacle. I have to admit I wasn't prepared for my first encounter with the Bloggernacle.
Arouse the Faculties of Your Souls
The language of the scriptures is powerful and can arouse the faculties of our souls if we have ears to hear.
The Lord explaining this said:
My Heart Burns Within Me When I Read These Words
1 O THAT I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!
2 Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth.
